Do I need to be on time?
Yes, it’s vital. The doors will close on the dot at the advertised start time for each experience. We aren’t able to let people in, or refund latecomer tickets - once we go dark, we go dark .
Where are the experiences happening?
For this season, London. We have three venues - St Bartholomew the Great near Farrington, the Chain Store at Trinity Buoy Wharf near Canning Town, and for one night only the Cutty Sark in Greenwich. More venues will be announced in due course.
When are the experiences?
Primarily on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays in January - March 2025. There are three shows each day apart from the 25th January underneath the Cutty Sark, when there will be two shows.
What kind of music is performed?
It crosses boundaries - if pushed, we’d describe it as a cross-over of ambient, Scandi, nu-folk and experimental, with hints of electronic & classical, but perhaps a better way to think about it is by describing what it feels like: profound, raw, cathartic, ethereal.
Who’s performing?
The Hush Collective, a secret collective of multi-instrumentalists & singers. You’ll meet them at the end of the experience, along with the details of what you’ve just heard. The aim is for you to listen to the sound experience ‘raw’.
Are the venues accessible?
Unfortunately due to the age & listing status of St Bartholomew the Great, it is not accessible. However, performances at both The Chain Store & the Cutty Sark are fully accessible.
Is the experience seated or standing?
All audience members are seated throughout. The performers are not distant on a stage, they are nearby - you may sense them, but they won’t come into your personal space. Sometimes the sound may seem in front of you, sometimes around you.
Is the experience really in the dark?
Completely - for both the musicians and the audience - apart from a tiny bit of natural light that might creep in. When you arrive, we’ll provide you with a sleep mask - included in your ticket price - which provides you with a total blackout. It’s best to listen with the sleep mask on if possible, or eyes shut tightly if not. If your eyes are open, your mind will start to wander…
Is it suitable for children?
If they’re able to sit quietly for 60 minutes, they’ll love it. Some have come and fallen asleep. No under 8’s, though, apologies. If they start fidgeting it’s distracting for everyone, and stressful for you.
How long is the sound experience?
60 minutes.
Is it scary?
Though we love the immersive experiences out there that really challenge you, this one is about calm, and time out… so it’s not scary. There are no theatrics. This is about down time, not drama.
